Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Creator Reveals Real Reasons Behind Movie Delay

Kevin Eastman has blabbed to the press about the real reasons the new movie has been delayed and moved from a 2013 release slot back to 2014.

Kevin Eastman, one half of the team that originally created those Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, has blabbed to the press about the real reasons the new movie has been delayed and moved from a 2013 release slot back to 2014. When the Michael Bay reboot originally hit delays earlier this year it was widely believed that there were some pretty severe script problems causing issues in the pre-production stages. But it seems this is not actually the case. In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Eastman - who has been fully behind the proposed alien themed re-imagining - said the following:

"I talked to Scott Mednick yesterday, and he's seen the most recent 50 pages and said it's as good as the last version--they've really knocked it out of the park. I've seen a chunk of it, and it's going to be a great movie, despite what everybody thinks."

So if it isn't the script then what else could the delays be caused by?

"Essentially they pushed it back for two reasons: One is the director, Jonathan Liebesman, wanted to make sure he could do the effects to the level he wants them at, and the fight scenes to the way they should be. Also, their release date is almost exactly on the 30th anniversary. May 5, 1984 is when the first Turtles comic came out. May 16, 2014, is almost exactly 30 years after. So basically it's an anniversary movie now."

Whether or not this is the real reason for the delays or in fact a convenient excuse remains to be seen, however it would make sense to wait for the films 30th anniversary to relaunch the franchise for a whole new generation. Eastman has also stated that he doesn't necessarily mind the alien origin story, even though it's the one thing that's driven fans crazy since news broke. According to Kevin the support of the fans is absolutely vital to the success of any new Turtles movie so we shouldn't worry too much about the tweaks to the backstory. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans here at WhatCulture will reserve judgement until we've seen or heard a little more and will bring you more news as it breaks. In related news however it is rumoured that a new Turtles video game is in the works and will hit PS3, Wii, Xbox 360 and Wii U and will be developed by Rocksteady utilising the Arkham City graphics engine. It's certainly a great time to be a fan of those pizza loving ninjas.
