Terminator: Dark Fate has now begun its international rollout, and though yours truly found the film a wildly mixed bag, it is nothing if not fiercely committed to reminding fans of the series' glory days - for better and for worse.

More than any other sequel in the series, Dark Fate is awash in knowing nods, references and straight-up riffs on previous franchise characters, scenes, gags and one-liners, especially those immortalised in the incredible first two movies.

Yet despite wiping the last three Terminator films from the continuity, there are in fact a scattered couple of references to some of their better ideas, as well as the occasional tip of the hat to wider pop-culture as a whole.

But the main course of Easter eggs is absolutely in debt to Terminator 2 in particular, from which the film as a whole is largely inspired.

If you're a casual Terminator fan who perhaps hasn't revisited the movies in quite a few years, you might not fully appreciate just how inspired Dark Fate is by what came before. Here's everything we spotted...
