Terminator: Dark Fate Review - 5 Ups & 5 Downs

3. Rev-9 Is A Mediocre Antagonist

Terminator Dark Fate Rev 9

A vital component of any Terminator film, of course, is the antagonist, and while Rev-9 (Gabriel Luna) is certainly more engaging than Genisys' array of forgettable baddies, he can't even begin to live up to the T-1000 (Robert Patrick) or even really the T-X (Kristanna Loken).

It's not really Gabriel Luna's fault, but Rev-9 doesn't have much personality or presence, and his gimmick - to split himself into two - ultimately doesn't lead to anything interesting despite its intriguing potential.

He gets a few agreeably vicious action beats, sure, but by the series' standards he's a totally stock, unmemorable antagonist who isn't fit to clean the T-1000's liquid metal boots.
