3. It Really IS The Exact Same Plot As Logan? (But There's New Stuff)

Look, so for all the complaints about the similarities with existing stories like Logan, there's a good reason for them leaning on that sort of familiarity - Logan is great. The idea of a machine with existential anxiety seeking to protect a human who will be key to the future and the defeat of Skynet (presumably) and them travelling on a roadtrip while trying to stay alive is a genuinely good way of framing this monster movie.

It means we don't get too drowned in futurism and we can return to the perverse horror of something so deadly from an alien future coming to OUR world and showing such disdain. That's where Genisys and Salvation fell down - they forgot that the appeal here was the same as any slasher/monster movie where real people are chased through real environments where they're supposed to feel safe by something completely super-real.

And on top of that, the fact that Mackenzie Davis' Grace doesn't recognise Sarah Connor hopefully means that we aren't just going to get ANOTHER story where John Connor is the chief narrative thrust. After Genisys, wiping him out of the story for a while was always going to be a good decision.
