Terminator Genisys: 30 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And References

27. The Shot-For-Shot Remake

The first act of Terminator Genisys goes back to the events of the original film, having them play out like they did in 1984 before suddenly twisting them into the new timeline. This posed something of a problem for production - they couldn't reuse the footage (it's owned by a different company). Instead, the arrival of both Kyle Reese and the T-800 are recreated pretty much shot-for-shot, only changing when the T-1000/Guardian get in the way. There's a nice attention to detail here, with angles and camera movement, as well as character action and lines, lovingly recreated. There's lots of throwbacks to the earlier movies in Genisys, but this is by far the most extensive.
