1. It Feels Like A Cynical Hollywood Franchise Reboot Designed To Set Up Another Unnecessary Trilogy
Deadline's review concludes that "the film overall feels like a greedy attempt to set up the franchise for another endless trilogy of movies." It's hardly a radical statement - Hollywood's appetite for money is largely satiated by safe and reliable franchises - but it's still a shame to hear that the emphasis on the bottom line shines through so obviously. The Wrap's review expanded on the problem outlined by Deadline: "The least inspiring thing about Terminator Genisys is how its a fifth film that doesnt improve or expand on the prior four so much as its meant to clearly set up Part Six, Part Seven and possibly even more." It might be a process movie fans are all too familiar with these days, but each time another blockbuster comes along which rehashes stuff we've all seen before it feels as if another nail has been hammered into mainstream cinema's coffin. Not for the first time this year, in the words of The Wrap, "a whole franchise comes back from the past to water down summer moviegoing." Have these early reviews put you off wanting to see Terminator Genisys or are you still pumped for its release? Why not let us know in the comments?
