The Amazing Spider-Man 2: 5 Actors That Could Play Harry Osborn

3. Kieran Culkin

Talk about a Dark Horse candidate. But Kieran Culkin really knocked it out of the park in Scott Pilgrim for me. Not to mention he looks like a young, creepier Norman Osborn. Because of Scott Pilgrim we know he can play comedy and is comfortable in the shoes of someone that the rest of the world sees as "different". He has the necessary nerdy vibe and absolutely has the necessary creepy vibe. He's done plenty of indy films and of course, it was his breathtaking performances in Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York that really sky rocketed him into the top three Harry O. candidates. But seriously, the dude's got acting chops to match his quirky look. The most important thing in casting this role is that it needs to be different. We don't need, or even want, a strictly clean cut, sharp dressed young man to be Peter's best friend who eventually becomes his greatest foe. Save the basic, tired, A to B story telling for the (now cancelled) comic book. Face it folks, Marc Webb is now a big budget director who has his roots in indy films. Given that the Amazing Spider-Man ended up being more of a love story than anything, Harry Osborn is going to have to fit that modern mold. Whether or not you were a fan of the reboot doesn't change the fact that it made oodles and oodles of monies and they're going to make more. It also doesn't change the fact that it's being given to us as a reinvigorated and modernized Spider-Man. Culkin fits those molds from top to bottom.
