The Avengers: Ranking The Marvel Films That Came First

1. Captain America

I imagine this will cause a lot of disagreement, but I think this was the best Pre-Avengers film. There are a few reasons for why I chose this as number one- the emotional ending (IMO still one of the best endings to a comic book movie we€™ve had yet); the wonderful old-school score by Alan Silvestri, complete with €˜The Star-Spangled Man€™; the whole feeling of old movie magic- hardly surprising considering director Joe Johnston worked on Raiders of The Lost Ark and directed The Rocketeer; Hugo Weaving€™s Red Skull, obviously and brilliantly inspired by Hans Landa... But, like Thor, the best thing about Captain America: The First Avenger is Chris Evans€™ portrayal of Steve Rogers. Totally loveable, you root for him as both a wimp and a super-soldier. In a cynical world, this genuinely big-hearted and optimistic film full of nostalgic charm and old-fashioned excitement makes it not just the best Pre-Avengers film, but also the best film film out of all of them.
