1. It's The Coens' Worst Film Since The Ladykillers
This isn't easy to admit, but The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is certainly the Coen brothers' worst film since their divisive The Ladykillers remake back in 2004.
Now, it's nowhere near as uneven as that movie, but considering that every single feature they've released since has been good-to-excellent - including No Country for Old Men, Burn After Reading, A Serious Man and True Grit - it's a little deflating that this one leaves such a minimal lasting impression.
It's likely just a minor blip for the filmmakers, but given the huge potential this premise had, it's tremendously disappointing that the sum of its parts is really just "OK."
Coens fans obviously shouldn't miss it regardless, but with November's film slate being as crowded as it is, there's no real reason to make this a priority.
