The Batman: 10 Characters Matt Damon Could Play For Affleck

9. The Riddler

Ahead of The Dark Knight Rises, Warner Bros allegedly wanted Leonardo DiCaprio to come in as The Riddler, suggesting that they had a distinctly different plan for the genius supervillain than Joel Schumacher's cartoonish version of the character.

The studio should consider something similar again for The Batman: casting a charismatic, conventionally starry A-lister to add a wholly new spin to the villain, but pushing the conflict between the two. In the most compelling of Riddler stories, his primary agenda is proving that he is better than Batman in every way: and having someone who actually looks like they'd believe that of themselves physically would be a nice new change.

Damon has significant range as a character actor, and while he's never really done anything as conventionally Machiavellian as The Riddler, he unquestionably has the charm to sell it, and he has proved himself more than capable of playing villains. It's about time we saw more of that.
