You can look at Rotten Tomatoes scores, award wins and nominations, and critical acclaim, but the biggest factor of a movie's success is its performance at the box office. That is, after all, why movies are made - to make money. A lot of money. Some movies under-achieve, some over-achieve, and then there are the ones that completely knock it out of the park.

At the time of writing there are currently 39 movies to have made over $1 billion globally (though this is sure to hit 40 before Toy Story 4 is done). Naturally, most of these have earned this accolade in the last few years, however this is still an incredible achievement. How well do you know these cinema success stories?
