5. Vixen! (1968)
Starring the incredible Erica Gavin, Vixen! was the first film to be rated X on account of its sex scenes. Gavin plays the titular Vixen, who as with all RM heroines, has the sex drive of A viagra fuelled duracell bunny. She is frustrated because her husband is a pilot, frequently away from home and they live in the Canadian wilderness. Vixen lives up to her name and she manipulates all the men who come into contact with her - including seducing a mountie and her own brother. RM mixes sex with satire and pokes fun of Vixen's racism as well as getting everyone all riled up with talk of communism. Erica Gavin is just perfect as the voracious Vixen. She is incredibly beautiful and exudes sexual magnetism. Meyer juxtaposes a sexploitation flick with some pretty heavy politicising. This makes for quite surreal viewing, especially at the end when a random IRA guy shows up. Was RM trying to make a political statement amidst all the bare boobies concerning politics in Ireland?? It is a very unique approach that lifts Vixen! out of the ordinary sexploitation genre and gives it more oomph and interest than the average skin flick. Vixen's shenanigans are worth their weight in gold.
