The Commuter Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

Gloriously dumb fun.

January may be Hollywood's designated dumping ground for all the cinematic tosh the studios have no faith in, but that doesn't mean early-year releases can't be fun.

Liam Neeson's latest action vehicle The Commuter, which boasted a risible set of trailers and frankly didn't seem like it'd score higher than 20% on the Tomatometer, has actually earned rock solid three-star notices from most critics.

This is pretty much on-the-money for what is another solidly enjoyable Liam Neeson B-movie without much in the way of overarching logic or thoughtfulness, but it gets the job done and will leave most entertained, which for a January release is all that really matters.

Neeson delivers what his fans want in a knowingly ridiculous mystery thriller that certainly could've been a stronger piece overall, but it goes down nice and easy, and following the insanity of the awards circus in recent months, isn't a lightly enjoyable January thriller just the palate cleanser film fans need right now?
