The Commuter Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
2. Most Of The Supporting Cast Is Totally Wasted
Liam Neeson movies are great for any actor's profile, so it's little surprise that The Commuter has attracted a decorated supporting cast, most of whom are sadly totally wasted here.
First off, there's the brilliant Vera Farmiga, who barely appears in the film as the mysterious woman who kickstarts Neeson's predicament, and is mostly relegated to talking to him over the phone, most of which was presumably recorded in a single afternoon.
Then there's Breaking Bad's Jonathan Banks, who has a small role as Neeson's fellow commuter - ironically named Walt - before quickly disappearing out of the movie; Oscar nominee Elizabeth McGovern shows up for a cup of coffee as Neeson's wife in a thankless, forgettable part; Sam Neill has a few scenes as a grizzled police Captain; and Lady Macbeth's Florence Pugh has a nothing role as one of the train's passengers.
None of these actors get their due, which considering their pedigree, is extremely disappointing.
