10. Does Batman...Die?
Surely notright? Im not sure I can quite get my head around the gravity of this possibility. I grew up on Batman. Hes been more there for me to idolise, to believe in since I was so young than even Jesus and his ilk. Batman taught me to believe in my convictions. Batman taught me to never give up. Batman taught me that no matter what happens, theres always a way. Dont misunderstand, I dont secretly believe he exists or anything (honest!) but hes been such an important part of so many lives that seeing him die might just be the most shocking, heart-wrenching event ever captured on film. Itd be like watching a movie about your Father that ended with his death. Its no secret that Bane is the first villain to finally match the Dark Knight, both physically and mentally; that in the comics Bane snapped Batmans spine like he was sharing a Kit Kat. And we can gather from the trailer that Nolan is picking at least some elements from this story arc (
Knightfall: Broken Bat). We also know that Nolan has made it very clear that this will be his last Batman film and that he considers his involvement with the franchise as concluded with TDKR. He seems to be taking a very completionist attitude toward his as yet acclaimed franchise and it wouldnt be much of a push to imagine him killing of his famed version of the character so that it remains forever owned by him. This then adds more credence to the rumors that Gordon-Levitts John Blake character might actually be Azrael and that he could potentially go on to be the new Batman in a reboot. Although Im not sure Id be happy about sitting through a Batman movie that didnt have Bruce Wayne in it. Of course in reality, we just dont know. Like you, well have to just keep these questions rolling around in our mind until we finally get the answers in just ten days time, on the 20th of this month!
