The Dark Knight Rises: 20 Blunders in Chris Nolan’s Trilogy

10. Catwoman€Sorry, 'Selina Kyle'

Despite the fact that my respect for Anne Hathaway went through the roof after seeing her take on the world€™s sexiest cat burglar, I still couldn€™t help but feel Nolan had forced her in there in a desperate attempt to curry favour with the comic book fans (there€™s been heavy criticism along the same lines of this article since day one, from the rabid fans at least). Not only did she do or say very little of actual impact to the story, she essentially robbed Batman€™s victory from him the moment she decided to kill Bane. I was under the impression that Batman doesn€™t kill or allow killing under his watch. I€™m pretty certain that taking missiles directly to the face would be fatal though, so inadvertently (seemingly in an attempt to address the issue of Batman leaving Bane unattended) Nolan has made Catwoman €“ now known only as Selina Kyle. Why? Because f*ck you that€™s why €“ break one of the most important tenets of the entire Batman mythology. These are the clumsy little inconsistencies that put me off the entire franchise. Why would Batman ever agree to take the rap for Harvey Dent€™s murders? Why would Gordon let him? That€™s perversion of justice, and if I know Gordon, he wouldn€™t stand for it. Why would Batman abandon Gotham twice? And why was it necessary to involve the Al Ghul€™s in the final act at all? Because Nolan said so, that€™s why. Any other justification, you€™re going to have to make up yourself.
