The Dark Knight Rises: 5 Reasons It's The Best of the Trilogy

2. The Beginning

Not many people consider the fact that both Dark Knight films start their journeys with an introduction to the villain. This is not the case with Begins, so I've decided that the best beginning should be another Bane v Joker shoot out. First, we start off with the legendary bank job scene in The Dark Knight. Some say it's the best part of the whole film, giving an insight into how the Joker works and ultimately foreshadowing what will happen in the future. An equal mix of intelligence and brutality. Seeing the villains take each other out on the job demonstrated their naivety and greed, but Joker's ability to manipulate and control the situation reflects his underestimated ability. Bane would do exactly the same. The scene was an intelligent and thoughtful beginning that kick-started a wonderful film. Everyone I know enjoyed it. But in reality, could it really hold a candle to the opener of Rises? We start in a deserted field. A 4x4 drives across the landscape, with three bagged men in the back. Complete silence in the car. They are then escorted onto a CIA plane, with the hosts speaking of 'the masked man'. They board and a very violent interrogation begins. The American holding the head of each of the men outside the aircraft. Those who talks, stays aboard. However, none speaks a word of the masked man. Then a booming voice is heard, questioning the agent's technique in investigation. A small exchange of words between the two men occurs, and the bag is removed from the person's head. Bane. Let the games begin. Cue the soundtrack and a bigger plane, then all hell breaks loose. The jet is hijacked by more of a flying building than a plane, and a staged crash is carried out in the skies. More than anything, Zimmer makes this scene a classic. The music transformed the jet into a war zone. The chaos shown in this scene was a sign of what was to come for Gotham. It was the foundation for the whole film, establishing a theme for the next three hours.
