The Dark Knight Rises: 5 Reasons We Love Anne Hathaway's Catwoman

2. Lack Of Female Superheroes

How many can you count within the last decade? Other than Elektra - her movie bombed - Scarlet Johansson's Black Widow was a notable entry. In fact, Black Widow and Catwoman share a lot of similarities: except for their human flair. Unlike the days where Disney movies made every girl wait for prince charming to "save" them, due to shifting gender roles, those women are now replaced with strong female heroines. Even in the male-dominated superhero film genre, the female love interest actually helps instead of, well, waiting for prince charming to save them. In fact, men these days prefer women who work and can support themselves while real women strive to be just that. What was really great about Selina Kyle was that she never felt like she was in danger. You knew she was going to kick ass in whatever situation she was put in - and look damn good while doing it. Everyone loves an anti-hero and here we were presented with one.
