The Dark Knight Rises: 6 Answers To 'Where Do We Go From Here?'

4. Robin The Man Wonder

Batman said that 'anyone can be a hero'. Maybe there's a reason he used that wording. Sure he did also say that "Batman could be anybody" but to most of Gotham he's now "the guy who gave his life to save our city". Taking that away from Gotham would be a tremendous loss of identity for them. Seeing a Batman emerge into the world that the citizens of Gotham wouldn't know for sure wasn't the original would deteriorate the sacrifice that Batman made. It's also something that doesn't have to be done. Does anyone here really doubt that that the line about John Blake's first name being "Robin" was an important clue? Sure it could be argued that Nolan was giving a nudgey nerdy nod to his audience, but that doesn't seem his style. The idea of having Robin emerge into cinema on his own without Batman to guide him might seem a violation of sacred nerdly law, but it's really not. Batman did guide Robin (even though he preferred to be called John) he just didn't do it while Robin was wearing a costume. In fact, if the next flick were a solo Robin adventure directed by Chris Nolan, it wouldn't make his claims into a lie. He said that this flick would be his last Batman movie... not his last movie in the Batman world! Perhaps wishful thinking. I am by the way, not suggesting how likely it is or isn't that Nolan will direct the next movie, just pointing out that he could without being a liar. I'd really like to see a new director at the reigns, and I imagine that Nolan would as well. A fresh set of eyes would probably be best to say something new with a character that Nolan never seemed interested in exploring anyway. Whoever should direct a fourth movie in this set could take the story of Robin and make it a new and interesting version of the character unlike any ever seen onscreen before. They could even call him 'Red Robin' as the character later becomes known. While there's a lot of different villains that Robin could fight, one of the most enticing ideas is who might be behind the villains fighting....
