The Dark Knight Rises Sequel: 10 Things Warner Bros Must Get Right

2. Sign Up Joseph Gordon-Levitt For Three Films

As our What Culture writer Luke Stevenson had ever so astutely predicted months before the film was released, Joseph Gordon-Levitt's John Blake character did prove to be far more vital to The Dark Knight Rises than we first imagined and it is now clear he is going to be a major part of the sequel, probably taking on the lead role. I imagine Warner Bros have all but done this already, they wouldn't have dreamed of finishing the Batman film saga the way they did without doing this, but they must sign and lock him down for future movies... preferably a new trilogy. Levitt is likely to have taken the franchise burden away from Christian Bale and Warner Bros and Nolan were extremely smart in hiring a new franchise actor before speculation ever needed to really begin on who was going to play the new Batman after The Dark Knight Rises. And now we all liked his performance and are into his character, we are comfortable with Levitt leading the next Batman movies as a character that isn't Bruce Wayne and the controversy of where the next movie could be headed never really reared its ugly head. I mean, can you imagine if this time a year ago we found out that Levitt would be leading the Batman movies after The Dark Knight Rises as a character that isn't Bruce Wayne? We would have been outraged but right now it sounds like something we might just want to see...
