2. The Magic of Reading vs. The Reality of Watching

OpenBook Much of the joy from immersing yourself in the Dark Tower series comes from the way the words on the page translate to your imagination. You read about characters, locations, and conflicts, and then you create the image of them in your own mind (kind of the nature of reading, right?). Add to that the masterful guidance you receive from King's breathtaking ability to weave a tale and you get an absolutely unforgettable experience. Whenever filmmakers try to show readers what they SHOULD be seeing in their minds, Constant Readers often balk. So how do you translate the magic into reality? Is there any filmmaker alive capable of doing that with such a vast and complex story as that of Roland's ka-tet? Hmmm€ Methinks you know my sad answer to that question.
