The Death Of Superman Review: 5 Ups & 6 Downs

1. Superman's Death Is Actually Affecting

The Death Of Superman
Warner Bros.

It's of course no spoiler to say that Superman dies at the end of this film, and you know what? It's actually pretty damn effective, and certainly more convincing that the rather wonky attempt to make audiences weep for the Man of Steel in Batman v Superman.

In large part it works here because the film does a fine job convincing the audience that Superman is a beacon of hope for humanity, and his demise leaves a gigantic void behind.

Considering Superman was a highly controversial figure at the end of Man of Steel, his death in BvS felt rushed and the pathos unearned, yet here, the loss is truly, deeply felt.

Sure, it's all over too fast and the film revives him mere minutes later, but for a brief moment, this was the most affecting that a DC project, animated or otherwise, has been in years.
