The Disturbing Truth Behind Avengers: Infinity War

1. It Could Really Cost The Comics

While the popularity of the MCU is good for comic book movie fans, it isn't necessarily good for comic book fans, who've had to put up with a lot over the years. They're at the mercy of comic makers who will reboot on a whim or who will focus on huge events rather than satisfying slower-burn builds for their characters and now they're living under the perpetual threat of their comics being changed entirely to better serve the MCU.

The Infinity Gems have already become the Infinity Stones, the Fantastic Four was cancelled entirely because Marvel didn't have the film rights (at least partly) and Inhumans was pushed forward, the Guardians of the Galaxy were completely changed and the whole All-New, All-Different Marvel felt like an attempt to remould the comics universe into the shape of the studio's vision.

And when you think about it, if the creators you're relying upon to create your content are so willing to bend to the will of what amounts to an external force, what sort of investment can you really give to the comics.

If, as expected, Infinity War takes out some key players like Captain America and Thanos, who's to say that Marvel won't suppress ongoing comics to reflect that - or limit the potential for those characters to come back for key arcs on the page. It would make sense that they'd do it, if it served their agenda for Phase 4 to be different in the wake of Infinity War, and that's very worrying if you're a Marvel Comics fan.

What do you think? Will Avengers: Infinity War work out for Marvel Studios? Have your say down in the comments.
