The Emoji Movie Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs

3. Patrick Stewart Is Barely In It

Much of the film's publicity has revolved around the fact that Patrick Stewart voices the poop emoji, a relatively hilarious and peculiar idea that's pretty much the most intriguing thing about the film.

After all, if Sir Patrick was involved, it was probably for a good reason, right?

Well, that "good reason" was presumably getting a fat paycheck for the good PR his presence brings the movie, because his role is in fact depressingly small, and doesn't last beyond a few lines of dialogue he probably recorded on a Sunday morning before breakfast.

The idea, of the poop emoji being the most well-spoken of all the emojis, had some potential, but ultimately Stewart barely figures in the movie at all, giving people one less reason to even consider watching it.
