The Exact Moment Futurama Lost Us

2. It Ruined A Perfect Ending

As said previously, the perfect ending is something that most TV shows will never experience. Breaking Bad did it, Sons of Anarchy did it, and with ‘The Devil’s Hands are Idle Playthings’, Futurama did it. However, this was ruined with the return of the show.

The first Futurama run came to a close with Fry and Leela walking off into the distance together. This was part of Fry’s holophoner recital, but with Leela the only one left to hear it despite it sounding terrible, this was all the confirmation fans needed that they were finally getting together after all this time. What a way to end the show.

Fast forward two years however, and it’s like the writers forgot that this was where they were supposed to pick up from. It was like this incredible moment in the story of Fry and Leela, arguably the most prominent and important story throughout the series, never happened.

When the Planet Express crew reconvened, Fry and Leela’s relationship was barely even referenced. Fry was still like a lovesick puppy for Leela, but she still barely noticed him. Instead, she fell in love immediately with Lars. Yes, this was ultimately still Fry, but she didn’t know that at the time, and in completely ignoring the final scenes of the show's first finale, the writers once again ruined one of their greatest moments.
