The Father Review: 5 Ups And 2 Downs
6. Down: Too Difficult To Watch For Some
This negative comes down to taste but it is still worth mentioning all the same. There is little to no happiness to be found here at any point and the purpose of the film is not to provide you with an hour and a half of exciting escapism.
The Father is an exceptionally heavy film that will hollow you out and make you uncomfortable. It shouldn't be watched as casual viewing. The film's dour tone and tragic story will be too much for certain viewers and some people won't be able to sit through a film that is this demanding.
This is particularly the case of course, if you have gone through something similar with a loved one. Relieving those kind of past events may do more harm than good but that is obviously a personal choice and will be different from person to person. It has to be this way but not everyone will want to go through an experience that this film provides.
Those are the few nitpicks to be had, but what does The Father do well?
