21. The Short

As usual, the feature was prefaced by a short film, which is legitimately one of the best shorts the company has ever released. The film - Sanjay's Super Team - which heavily uses Hindu spiritual imagery to reimagine a superhero story, and is built on the personal experiences of film-maker Sanjay Patel. It's great; the story, the imaginative and the visuals are everything you'd expect from Pixar and more, and show the scope to transcend the usual love story element that has crept in recently. There's also a distinct nod to The Incredibles in the Super Team TV show: there's the same retrofuturist costume design, and the lead superhero - and Sanjay's action figure - has both the physical quirks and the blonde hair of Mr Incredible.
