The Hateful Eight: 8 Reasons To Be Excited

2. The Story

At first glance, The Hateful Eight very clearly comes across as the spaghetti western movie that Quentin Tarantino has always wanted to make. What sets it apart from the pack is sub-genre nuances of its story. While it is sure to be a leather-tough western, the story is also very much a "whodunit", befitting of an Agatha Christie novel. We know that a bounty hunter and his captured fugitive are on their way to a town called Red Rock. Along the way, they pick up a black bounty hunter and a self-proclaimed sheriff. Losing their lead on an approaching blizzard, they decide to stop at a place called "Minnie's". There they find the caretaker, a cow-puncher, a "hangman" and a former confederate General. As the snow piles up, so do the tensions and the mistrust. With a black Union soldier on one side and an old, white Confederate General on the other, former enemies make very uneasy bedfellows within the ice-battered walls of Minnie's. With no real good guys in the lot, the compromising and investigating are sure to be handled with all the delicacy and grace of a nail bomb.
