The High-Rise Trailer Has Arrived, And It's Genius

"Join us at the high-rise."

StudioCanal have released their first teaser trailer for High-Rise, Ben Wheatley's (Kill List, Sightseers) adaptation of JG Ballard's novel of the same name. It's an intriguing little trailer, formed in the guise of a promotional advert from 'Royal Architects', who have built the skyscraper of the title. The footage gets more and more unnerving as it goes along, as we go from the faux-advert feel to a more standard look at some of the scenes from the film. It ends on just the right ambiguously creepy note. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRBeZGYisLg&feature=youtu.be Ben Wheatley is one of the most interesting directors to emerge in recent years, and his particular brand of trippy, darkly funny thrillers have been well-received by critics and fans alike. This is arguably the biggest film he's done so far, and he's attracted quite the cast around him; Tom Hiddleston, Luke Evans, Sienna Miller and Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss are all welcome additions to Wheatley's stable. Hiddleston especially may have the opportunity to bring some of his Marvel fans along with him for the ride, which I'm sure wouldn't go amiss for the director or the studio. Our Film Editor Alex Leadbeater positively loved it when he caught it earlier this year, and additional critical buzz is stronger than it is weak. From the look of things, it's one to watch out for next year. High-Rise is released in the UK on 18 March 2016. You can read our four star review here.
