J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings took several years to complete. With so many characters, and even its own language, this fantasy series was definitely worth the wait. It has since become one of the best-selling novels of all time.

Nearly fifty years after its release, Peter Jackson brought Middle-earth to life on the big screen in three parts, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King (2003). It was great to see the characters and stories come to life.

After almost ten years, the The Hobbit was then released and after such a long time between trilogies, fans were excited to see the return of some familiar faces, along with some fresh ones. While many prefer The Lord of the Rings trilogy to The Hobbit, there's no denying just how great both truly are.
