The House With A Clock In Its Walls Review: 5 Ups & 3 Downs

2. The Poop Jokes

If you're charged with making a film that appeals to as broad a family audience as possible, there's clearly something in the handbook that says you have to put in as many poop jokes as possible. After all, it worked for Minions and all that lot did was say "bottom" and laugh.

Unfortunately, The House With A Clock In Its Walls goes for something even less subtle that than, with a couple of moments that are included for absolutely no reason other than cheap, childish jokes.

When the rest of the film is otherwise written pretty well and doesn't pander to a younger audience, the fact that that sort of toilet humour is in there (which admittedly HAS its place sometimes) is just confusing. What sort of audience would enjoy that and being scared witless?
