7. What Genre(s) Exactly Is This Film?

This question is perhaps the toughest question to answer, because it does cover a number of genres, and generally covers them quite well. While not using the found footage format, the film borrows significantly from the slow burn horror of the Paranormal Activity franchise, especially in the first act.

There is also a strong undercurrent of psychological thriller, especially when the camera stays fixated on Elizabeth Moss. It's hard to put into words how utterly brilliant her performance is, but her ability to get inside the head of a character suffering from Domestic Violence is eerily effective.

Scenes within a mental health facility in particular ramps up the psychological thriller aspects, and there are fleeting moments of these aspects in the finale that could have been utilised further.
