THE KILLER remake has been set-up again

John Woo's superb 80's classic is once again setup for a remake, this time set in L.A?

Sometimes I tend to go mad on sweets. Last night I stuffed myself silly on sugary chocolate delights whilst I sat and watched Broken Arrow on free U.K. television. That John Woo directed and John Travolta/Christian Slater starer is the perfect metaphor for a sugar induced movie. It tastes good but it never really satisfies, and you become twitchy, and just want more and more of the crap. Broken Arrow is a little like that. On the other hand, The Killer is one of John Woo's most accomplished films. It has all the crazy action of Broken Arrow (just 100 times cooler) but also great themes of loyalty and betrayl. The great ying and yang theme that is consistent in Woo's work. It's a perfect film quite honestly, not just on a pure entertainment level like Broken Arrow but of course, nothing is safe from the dreaded remake. The Hollywood Reporter says The Killer will be remade in Los Angeles with the settings Koreatown, Chinatown and South Central with South Korean helmer John H. Lee (who says the original is one of his favourite films) behind the camera.
"The actor has to be Korean in this version, but also, L.A. is a character in the film," Chang said in an interview on the opening day of the four-day Asian Film Market."In John's original version, it doesn't really matter where the film is set, except that Hong Kong has this dragon boat festival which adds a bit of local flavor. In this remake, we will use the geography of L.A. to move the story forward.""I ask myself why they chose me and whether I can top it," Lee said from Seoul on Monday. "But then I realize it's not about making it better. It's about making my own version. My strength is dealing with human emotions, austerity and elegance."
Over the last ten years a remake to The Killer has been discussed as many times as a Watchmen adaptation but this time it looks like it is going to happen. The movie is still at the scripting stages but they have a director now, financial backing and from the sounds of it the full conviction to move forward with this thing. Good luck with this one guys. You have some balls to remake this...
