The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part Review - 6 Ups And 2 Downs

1. Up: Chris Pratt's Irreplaceable Performance(s)

LEGO Movie 2 Emmet and Rex
Warner Bros

While Emmet is easily one of the best characters in recent animated movie history, Chris Pratt's performances as Emmet prove just how perfect his casting was. Pratt's ability to sell every bit of Emmet's aggressively-hopeful optimist persona while balancing the little moments of doubt and emotion is impressive to behold.

The best part is that in this movie, you get double the Chris Pratt. He pulls double duty here, playing two characters and (unsurprisingly) nails both roles. Pratt imbues both Emmet and Rex Dangervest (a parody of Pratt's more action-heavy roles) with so much natural charm and personality while still making each one distinct.

Ultimately proving to be the true MVP of this universe, Emmet's progression and Pratt's duality prove to be a winning combination for an exceptional performance once again. The jokes that were written for him land frequently and the emotional beats hit even harder. Put simply, Chris Pratt is a treasure, and this franchise is lucky to have him.
