The Marvels Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

3. Dar-Benn Is One Of The MCU's Worst Villains

It probably won't surprise anyone who's noticed how little attention The Marvels' trailers have paid its central villain that she's one of the MCU's most forgettable antagonists to date.

Kree revolutionary Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton) actually has some innately compelling motivations for her beef with Carol, yet execution counts for a lot, and as a character there's barely any meat on her bones at all.

Despite a decent attempt by the talented Zawe Ashton to breathe meaningful life into the character, she's given scarcely little to do beyond look menacing while chewing through the generic Villain Monologues.

If perhaps not quite as bland as, say, Thor: The Dark World's Malekith (Christopher Eccleston), Dar-Benn absolutely ranks among the lousiest and least memorable of all the MCU baddies so far.

If it felt like the franchise had basically conquered its infamous Villain Problem years ago, The Marvels confirms that it's far from stamped out.
