The Matrix Resurrections: 25 WTF Moments
22. Lana Wachowski Blatantly Dunks On Warner Bros. & General Audiences
It's clear throughout that Lana Wachowski wanted to take both studio Warner Bros. and general audiences to task for their bad habits, and that she does with her tongue rooted firmly in her cheek early on.
When Neo is having a meeting with Smith, Smith says they're being coerced into making a sequel to the original Matrix trilogy of video games by their "beloved parent company, Warner Bros."
Smith adds that the game is going to get made with or without them, very blatantly mirroring the fact that Warner Bros. nearly made a Matrix reboot starring Michael B. Jordan without the Wachowskis' involvement.
Clearly, Lana decided to make the movie to stop anyone else tinkering with the IP, and she also wanted to let everybody watching know that. It explains so much.
Lana also makes fun of audiences, too, as evidenced through a sequence in which Neo's employees at the video game studio brainstorm ideas for the proposed Matrix sequel.
Nobody seems to agree on whether the action or philosophical aspects are more important, nor how "bullet time" can ever be topped, basically typifying the fact that no Matrix sequel, no matter how good, could ever end up pleasing everyone.
