The Matrix Theory: The Oracle Told Cypher To Turn On Morpheus

Let’s relook at the first film with all that we learned about the Oracle in the sequel. After Neo meets the Oracle for the first time, Morpheus says to him, “What was said was for you and for you alone.” So apparently part of the deal between the humans and the Oracle is that when she gives them their instructions, they’re not supposed to go blabbing it to everyone, lest they screw everything up. But of course it’s a movie, so the rules get broken, and at least we as the audience get to discern what was said to some of them.

We know what she tells Neo because we were there when she told him, which is that he is not the One and that Morpheus is going to die. Morpheus tells Neo that the Oracle prophesized that he would find the One, whom he believes (at the time) to be Neo. And finally during the climax of the film, Trinity whispers to Neo as he is dying that the Oracle told her she would fall in love with the One, that she has fallen in love with him, and so that must mean he is the One. What’s very important to know about the Oracle is that she tells people what they need to hear so that they will make their own decisions. Sometimes that means straight up lying to them or misdirecting them, as she did with Neo.

Which brings us to Cypher, the traitor in their midst. Presumably all humans who come out of the Matrix get to meet the Oracle shortly after they are freed. She gives them some instruction on what their role will be in the fight against the machines. Like, she very well could have told Mouse to create the Woman in Red.

There are clues to suggest that whatever the Oracle told Cypher led him to turning on Morpheus....

Kyle Mustain hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
