The New Mutants Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs
1. The Solid Ensemble Cast
If any major positive can be said of The New Mutants, it's surely that the overwhelming majority of the ensemble cast emerges out of it unscathed and avoiding embarrassment.
No matter the poor quality of the script, the cast gives far more of themselves to it than they really needed to, with the female side of the cast, namely Taylor-Joy, Williams, and Hunt, acquitting themselves especially admirably.
Alice Braga also does fine work as Dr. Cecilia Reyes, the superpowered doctor overseeing the mutants' imprisonment, even if the character is grossly underwritten and offers no surprises to that end.
And no, for those curious, Antonio Banderas disappointingly doesn't show up at any point, as his planned cameo - widely believed to be a post-credits scene - was presumably part of the nixed reshoots.
