The Old Guard Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs
4. Charlize Theron's Thrilling Performance
It won't shock anyone to learn that Charlize Theron is far and away the best thing about this movie, turning in exactly the sort of committed, physical performance you'd expect from the Mad Max: Fury Road show-stealer.
Even when the script is at its most transparently lazy and the story grinds to a halt, Charlize plays her part with absolute conviction, in both the physically demanding action sequences and the more emotional, character-driven scenes.
Much like Chiwetel Ejiofor, she's a credit to practically any movie she appears in, and much of the reason that The Old Guard remains so consistently watchable is her electrifying presence.
