The One Thing EVERYBODY Missed In The Avengers: Endgame Super Bowl Trailer

Romanov Infinity War
Marvel

The closing shot of the TV spot sees our rag-tag remaining Avengers setting off "on mission". There's a clear purpose and unity to this shot, designed to tease the idea there they're about to get whatever needs to be done, done. Marvel love this shot , and we've seen something similar in virtually every Avengers trailer ever released. However, despite the suggestion being that this closing image is heading towards the final act of the movie, it's definitely before the time-jump.

The clue - and it's quite a glaring one once you notice it - is in Black Widow's hair. Or rather, it is Black Widow's hair. In both this and the initial trailer, we've seen her with the trademark blonde bob she sported in Infinity War. We see it when she's talking to Steve Rodgers, we see it when Ant-Man shows up, we see it in the outside shot, and we see it in the aforementioned power-stride. But, crucially, there's one more shot of her...

It's not quite blink and you'll miss it, but at the 17 second mark we see her on a shooting range at Avengers HQ. She pulls a pistol and unloads a clip into a third paper target, and we cut almost immediately to Ant-Man and War Machine. But look carefully, and Romanov is sporting a noticeably (and in the context of a time-jump, crucially) different look. Her hair is long. Long enough to complexly braid down her back.

It's hard to put an exact estimate on time based on this as, well, it's only a hairstyle and they tend to not follow the same rules in movies as they do in real life, but it does tell us that it's in the future. Certainly further in the future than any shots where her hair is short.

Ergo, whatever mission is being undertaken in the closing shots of the TV spot, is not the mission that the movie will hinge on. In fact it's equally as likely that whatever they're setting off to do there, ultimately fails. A suggestion that plays into the idea that we'll see our heroes defeated again before embarking on an all-or-nothing last stand....
