The Outsider Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs

1. The Sharp Cinematography

In terms of individual images, Camilla Hjelm Knudsen's cinematography is really quite beautiful at times, though this shouldn't be terribly surprising as she also made a visually stunning treat out of the director's aforementioned prior movie.

The scenic depictions of Japan are undeniably eye-catching and the visuals do underline the overall bleakness of the tale, but it's a shame these often gorgeous pictures aren't combined into a pacier, more interesting whole.

It'll sure look nice on your 4K TV - if you have one - but Knudsen's clear expertise at crafting appealing images deserves so much better than this slop.
