The race is on to see whether it will be ZOMBIES or PREDATOR who butchers Jane Austen first!

The race is on between two post-modern horror's. The word from Variety is that Elton John, of all people, and his production company Rocket Pictures have put into place an adaptation of Jane Austen's PRIDE AND PREJUDICE that will take the much adapted love story and transform it into the realm of horror. Titled PRIDE AND PREDATOR, the drama will take a different kind of turn when an alien crash lands and begins to butcher the mannered protags, who suddenly have more than marriage and inheritance to worry about. Will Clark (Oscar nominated for his short THE AMAZING TROUSERS) wrote the original screenplay and plans to direct. Elton John will supervise the music. Produce Dave Furnish...

"It felt like a fresh and funny way to blow apart the done-to-death Jane Austen genre by literally dropping this alien into the middle of a costume drama, where he stalks and slashes to horrific effect," Furnish said.
And if you are thinking of deja vu, I should probably remind you that just a week ago from today it was announced that the upcoming horror book PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES had been picked up for a big screen movie. Swap aliens for zombies and you have exactly the same premise, so the race is truly one between these two pictures. If you ask me, PRIDE AND PREDATOR (which is also the better title) has had it's hand forced by the rival pic and will be rushing through what they thought would have been a steady production. How could they have previously imagined that another studio would be making a Jane Austen horror? Shooting begins later this year. So frikkin' weird that these "out of left field" projects are being made at the same time.
