The Single Best Thing In Every Star Wars Movie

8. Solo - A Star Wars Story: Donald Glover's Lando Calrissian

The worst live-action Star Wars film isn't Rise of Skywalker. It isn't Attack of the Clones. It's not even The Phantom Menace. No, it's Solo: A Star Wars Story.

A staggeringly dull and insultingly pointless assembly-line blockbuster that feels like it was written and directed by an algorithm, this is the only Star Wars film that came close to beating The Clone Wars movie at its own game. In a series that has always, even in its weaker films, been so full of heart, passion and imagination something this bland genuinely felt insulting.

Still, greatness can come from anywhere.

Despite the overall awfulness of the movie, the cast did an absolutely solid job with the weak material they were given and best of all, it's got Donald Glover's Lando Calrissian.

A delightful charisma machine that's, if anything, even better than Billy Dee Williams' already wonderful take on the character in the Original Trilogy, Glover's Lando is an absolute joy to watch and he's so many leagues ahead of pretty much everything else in the movie that it ain't even funny.

The film didn't quite perform to expectations and as such no follow-up has materialised, but let's hope Glover one day gets a chance to reprise his role. After all, this is arguably one of the best performances in a terrible movie from recent years.
