The Single Biggest Mistake Each MCU Film And TV Show Has Made

7. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness - Wanda

What.... on earth... were they thinking?

The decision to abruptly turn Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) into a villain even though we'd just seen an entire TV show dedicated to her overcoming her dark side and her grief, is unquestionably one of the stupidest creative decisions in Marvel history.

It's been suggested that the writers of Doctor Strange 2 didn't get to watch the entirety of WandaVision before completing the screenplay, but still. Is anyone actually overseeing this franchise anymore?

Anyway, Wanda's storyline in this film makes Daenerys' infamous heel turn in Game of Thrones look like Breaking Bad. Her motivations are completely unconvincing, she's too overpowered to be a suspenseful antagonist, and the whole film shamelessly spits in the face of her arc in WandaVision and all of the character's prior development. And then, just when you thought it couldn't get any more insulting, the film tries to redeem Wanda at the end even though she's now killed scores of innocent people.

There are a lot of problems with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - the generally terrible script, safe approach and spoilerific marketing - but what they did to poor Wanda was easily the film's biggest crime.
