The Single Greatest Thing In Each James Bond Movie

21. You Only Live Twice - The Crazy Action Sequences

No Time to Die Daniel Craig

As awkward-to-watch as bits of it are now - namely, Bond donning 'yellowface' make-up to pass as Japanese - damn it, You Only Live Twice is a blast.

The plot is admittedly a bit of a Thunderball re-run but this film actually does it far better. It's got quicker pacing, the feature has a wonderfully otherworldly atmosphere in comparison to its predecessors, and, best of all, this movie is overloaded with absolutely exhilarating action.

From the film's iconic gyrocopter battle to a badass fight scene between Bond and a henchman played by Dwayne Johnson's grandfather, the film delivers stellar spectacle right up until its legendary finale - a mad-cap battle set inside Blofeld's (Donald Pleasance) volcano lair, which features a pool of man-eating piranhas, a fully-working monorail and even a rocket launch pad.

It really, really doesn't get much more 'James Bond' than that.

This was the first time the series dabbled in seriously OTT action, but unlike some of its successors, this installment avoids descending into self-parody and does bigger-scale action extremely well.
