The Spectacular Spider-Man: 10 Reasons It's Already Doomed

3. Audiences Don't Want Another Reboot

When The Amazing Spider-Man went back to the start, many people already cried foul. It was only five years on from Spider-Man 3, and for all its faults, that movie wasn't a Batman & Robin disaster that warranted a top-down reboot. Things are only going to be amplified with The Spectacular Spider-Man; this time, the whole series has gone full circle in less than half a deacde. In fact, when Peter Parker unmasks in Captain America: Civil War, it'll only have been two years since he was last seen on screen in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Obviously The Spectacular Spider-Man isn't just another simple restart of the franchise, seeing the character get integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but to to the general audiences the ability to faithfully realise Civil War isn't going to be a deal-maker. Sure, people will get a kick out of seeing Spidey chill with the Avengers gang, but there's a clear cynicism to bringing out similar takes on a character with such regularity that can't be avoided. This bemusement to mainstream audiences can already seen; head outside your restricted Twitter feeds and the reaction is far from positive, mostly registering with a shrug. And, really aren't the general public onto something? Aren't you a bit sick of Spider-Man? Obviously Civil War would be hampered without him, but with the whole release slate for Phase 3 being reshuffled to accommodate him (despite scant importance to the ongoing plot) it seems a case of too much, too fast.
