The Star Wars Story That Made The Prequels Worth It

When Dark Disciple was published in 2015, it came at a time when the Clone Wars were as good as gone. Rebels was on the way, and with it a renewed focus on the Original Trilogy. It was there to provide closure to fans of the show, but with that very show now set to return, the book looks to be in a somewhat awkward position.

It isn't yet clear as to when Clone Wars Season 7 will take place (although one would suspect it would lead directly into Episode III, with the abduction of Chancellor Palpatine), but there's still a possibility Dave Filoni and the rest of the series' showrunners could adapt the novel all over again. It was based on incomplete scripts, after all, and though Golden's work is superb, there could be value in seeing the story adapted into the format it was originally intended to.

If not, then that's still fine. The events of the book will have to be addressed either way, as it resolves the fate of several key characters from the show, so here's hoping they manage to do it in a way that manages to keep all fans in the loop, without reducing the story to a side-event in the series' wider chronology.

Either way, Dark Disciple is still a must-read for Star Wars fans, and especially for those who are fascinated by the prequels. Whether you love them or hate them, the book provides a valuable perspective on the Clone Wars, and exemplifies the strength of recent Expanded Universe media.
