The True Story Of The Nun: Who Is Valak?

3. Valac From Mythology

Instead of a pasty-faced goth wearing black eye shadow and lipstick, the Valac documented since the 17th century was said to be an angel winged boy who rode a two-headed dragon. While that does sound silly rather than frightening, the Dictionnaire Infernal, The Esoteric Codex: Demonology I, and the Lesser Key of Solomon spell book each declare that he was the 62nd demon and high-president of Hell who governed over 30 Legions of Spirits.

Not only did the Valac from ancient texts look entirely different, he had no interest in possessing the bodies of younglings. Rather than being an inhuman spirit with the cliched desire of wreaking havoc on Earth in the vessel of a human, Valac was an almighty spirit who magicians still call upon today to aid with expeditions for lost treasures.

Although Valac was gracious enough to disclose the location of hidden treasures and lend his ungodly strength for voyages, he was only this kind to those he judged worthy. For those he didn’t find deserving of his gifts, he slowly tormented and destroyed.

Even though Valac was an omnipotent demon treasure seekers would want to think twice about before summoning for information, it’s clear that there’s no similarities with Wan’s nun besides name pronunciation. This has led several sources to theorise that the blood-curdling nun has more in common with an even more powerful fiend from Hell.
