The Week Of Review: 1 Up & 8 Downs

4. The Insanely Lazy Script

The Week Of Chris Rock Adam Sandler Script
Netflix

While what passes for "humour" in the film is mostly terrible, the script isn't entirely comedy-focused, yet even as a piece of drama, it feels totally thoughtless.

For instance, a character actually dies during the middle of the week-long wedding prep, and despite it making zero organisational sense, the guy's funeral is somehow held the very next day. This is clearly just to keep the film's week-long plot structure in tact, but there's no way they had time to bury the guy that fast.

That's to say nothing of the fact that Sandler's character is a stubborn idiot, repeatedly refusing financial assistance from Rock's well-off surgeon to fix the various problems that befall the wedding.

And of course, when all else fails, the script just can't resist trotting Sandler out in drag near the end of the movie, because at that point, why the hell not? If you don't sigh out loud watching this movie, did you even really watch it?
