The World's End Review: 10 Insane Things You Won't Believe

8. The Robots' Plan

The World's End The plan of the bizarre robot race is slowly drip-fed to us over the course of the movie, whereby they don't simply intend to kill and/or enslave the human race, but instead slowly influence our nature to make us "better" and more peaceful. The robots selected roughly 2000 pressure points all over the world where they installed themselves, assimilating human beings and turning their original selves (called "empties") into compost. The robots hoped that by taking over small pockets of the world, they could essentially influence the remainder of humanity without having to resort to destroying them (other than those who discover the truth, of course). The idea was to bring planet Earth in harmony with the rest of the Universe, and the implication is that Earth is seen as something of a slow child as far as the galaxy is concerned. The offer to Gary and his buddies is that younger robot versions of themselves can take their place in the world, and allow their legacies to live on.
